전통생태지식을 활용한 초등 STEAM 환경교육 프로그램 개발 및 적용

The Development and Application of STEAM In Elementary School Environmental Programs Using Traditional Ecological Knowledge

본 연구는 초등학교 6학년 학생들을 대상으로 한 전통생태지식을 활용한 STEAM환경교육 프로그램을 개발하고 이를 수업에 적용함으로써, 전통생태지식을 활용한 STEAM 환경교육 프로그램이 초등학생들의 환경소양에 미치는 영향을 검증하였다. 이를 위하여 최종선(2005)의 전통문화 관련 환경지혜 분류 기준을 수정하여 전통생태지식 관련 분류 기준을 개발하고, 이를 기준으로 2009 개정교육과정 6학년 교과서와 지도서를 분석하였다. 그리고 의·식·주․여가생활 영역으로 범주화하여 STEAM 환경교육 프로그램을 개발한 다음, 서울시 소재 초등학교 6학년 1개 반을 대상으로 8주 동안 적용하였다. 본 연구를 통해 도출된 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 초등학교 6학년 각 교과에서 다루는 목표와 전통생태지식과의 관련성을 고려하여 전통생태지식 을 활용한 STEAM 환경교육 프로그램을 구안하였다. 둘째, 관련 교과 및 창의적 체험활동을 전통생태지식과 연결지어 프로그램의 단계별 학습 모형을 수립하며 교육과정을 재구성하였다. 셋째, 전통생태지식을 활용한 STEAM 환경교육 프로그램은 초 등학생들의 환경소양에 통계적으로 유의한 효과를 미쳤다. 또한 정성적 분석 결과, 학생들이 전통생태지식 속에 담긴 지식과 원리가 현대사회에서도 충분히 활용 가능한 가치 있는 지식이라고 느끼며 실생활에서도 실천하는 등 행동영역에서 변화를 보 여준 것으로 나타났다.

The purpose of this study was to develop a STEAM environmental education program using the traditional ecological knowledge and to investigate the influences on environmental literacy of 6th graders. To achieve the purposes, curriculum analysis was based on the revised classification criteria of environmental wisdom related to traditional culture and then, the STEAM environmental education program developed into the categories of clothing, food, housing and leisure life. The developed program applied to 1 class of 6th graders for 8 weeks. The results of this study are as follows. First, the program could be designed with considering relevance of goals of 6th graders’ each subject and the traditional ecological knowledge. Second, the program established the phased learning model of the program and reconstruct by limiting the clothing, food, housing, and leisure life that can use the traditional ecological knowledge fully to the life environment, and by connecting the relevant subject and creative experience activities with the traditional ecological knowledge. Third, according to comparing pre-test and post-test of environmental literacy, the program had a statistically significant effect on the elementary students’ environmental literacy. Also, as a result of qualitative analysis, it was shown the students felt the knowledge and principle included in the traditional ecological knowledge were the valuable knowledge that could be fully used in the modern society as well, and they carried out in the real life showing a change of the behavior scope.
