Socio-Cultural Understanding of Online Interaction: A Theoretical Exploration

본 논문의 목적은 상호작용 개념을 사회문화적 이론들의 관점에서 살펴봄으로써, 첫째, 온라인 상호작용에 대한 상식적이고 피상적인 전제들에 문제를 제기하고, 둘째, 새로운 접근의 가능성을 제기하는 데에 있다. 이를 위해 먼저 Dewey 의 인식론적 개념인 교류작용의 관점에서 상호작용을 재정의하고, 이와 유사한 입장을 취하고 있는 사회문화적 이론들, 특별히 문화역사적 활동이론과 상황학습이론의 주장들을 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 기존의 상호작용 개념이 고립된 단자들 간 모종의 작용을 교환하는 방식으로 이해되었다면, 총체적 변환의 과정으로 재인식 되어야 함을 강조하였다. 이에 더하여 Rogoff가 제시한 사회문화적 활동의 관찰을 위한 세 가지 지평을 소개함으로써 총체적 교류작용을 분석적으로 이해하기 위한 개념적 수준이나 층위를 제안하였다.

The study tried to re-conceptualize the concept of online interaction based on the perspectives of socio-cultural theories of learning such as the Deweyan theory of transaction, Vygotskian cultural historical activity theory, and Lave & Wenger’s situated learning theory. The purpose of the discussion was twofold: (1) to problematize the current naive and superficial approaches to online interaction, and (2) to provide a possible theoretical alternative. Finally, Barbara Rogoff’s three planes of observing socio-cultural activity were introduced as an analytical conceptual framework to understand online interaction which is conceived as a socio-cultural and transactional activity.
