This paper documents some of the developments in online learning in tertiary education in Singapore. It narrates the main learning approaches adopted by universities, polytechnics, and other education providers and discusses several cross-cutting themes including institutional goals of online learning, campus-wide online learning approaches, MOOCs, use of social media, and use of advanced technologies. Some of the unique characterizations of the Singapore context are synergistic drivers of online education in the tertiary section of the society; emphasis of quality online learning to support and enhance quality campus education; judicious development of MOOCs to support strategic goals; devotion of one week each year in some institutions to online learning; and innovations in online learning.
