A Visualization Method for Investigating Individual Learning Processes and Patterns in Computer-based Learning System

기술의 발달에 따라서 다양한 교습방법이 제공되는 기회가 생김에 따라서 교육 시스템의 질이 향상되었다. 동시에 컴퓨터를 활용한 러닝 환경에서 학습자들의 학습유형을 이해하고 학습자들에게 의미 있는 맞춤형 피드백을 제공하는 것이 관심의 대상이 되고 있다. 그러나 컴퓨터를 활용한 교육 시스템에서 수집되는 방대한 데이터를 활용하여 분석하여 개인의 시간에 따른 학습유형의 변화를 이해하기 위한 분석 방법들은 아직까지 많이 연구되지 못하였다. 이를 위한 목적으로 적절한 분석방법으로 다양한 그래프 방법을 이용한 것들이 보고되고 있으나, 시간에 따른 학습 변화를 보다 효과 적으로 보여주는 방안에 관한 연구는 적다. 본 연구에서는 이와 같이 시간의 흐름에 따라서 수집된 학습자의 자료를 분석하는 시각화 방법(Digraph)을 제시하고자 한다. 연구대상은 시스코 네트워크 기관에서 컴퓨터를 통해서 IT관련 학습을 진행한 학습자들 중심으로 수집된 데이터를 이용하였다. 연구의 결과로는 시각화 방법은 컴퓨터를 통한 학습환경에서 수집된 개인자료를 분석해서 시간에 따른 학습유형을 보여줄 수 있었으며, 나아가 이러한 시각화 방법을 통해서 컴퓨터를 활용한 학습환경에서 학습자들에게 학습유형과 같은 맞춤형 정보를 제공하여 학습을 도울 수 있는 가능성을 제안하고자 한다.

Technology improves the quality of the educational system through the opportunities various instructional methods. Meanwhile, investigating individual behaviors in computer-based learning systems recently has been a subject of attention in order to understand individual learning patterns and provide meaningful customized feedback in learning. However, the methods by which to understand individual learning patterns from the data in digital systems are currently underdeveloped enough. This study aims to explore a visualization method for understanding individual learning patterns in computer-based learning environment. Students in the Cisco Networking Academy (CNA) who took an online courseware used. The results suggest that the visualization method can offer the possibility of capturing evidence for identifying meaningful learning patterns. Also, this study proposes that the instructional supports based on visual analysis of individual learning processes may help students learning by providing customized information like individual learning patterns.
