동아시아지역 식민지일본어에 대한 사회언어학적 고찰

A Sociolinguistic Study of Colonial Japanese in East Asia - focus on extralinguistic factors

일본의 식민지교육환경에서 일본어를 습득한 학습자들은 고령화로 인해 매년 급격히 감소하고 있다. 이러한 동아시아지역의 식민지경험세대에 대한 언어적 피억압자로서의 일본어 습득과정과 현재의 상황에 대한 실증적 연구가 요구된다. 그러나 그들을 대상으로 한 연구는 주로 문헌조사를 통한 분석을 중심으로 이루어져 왔으며 최근에는 <일본어학습의 역사>라는 관점에서 일제강점기의 언어보급정책과 일본인과의 접촉 양상, 일본어를 둘러싼 구술사료(oral history)의 기술을 통한 올바른 해석이 필요하다는 인식이 제기되고 있다. 본 연구는 동아시아지역 식민지일본어학습자에 대한 필드워크를 통해 식민지일본어와 관련한 교육제도, 수업내용, 교재, 교사와 학생에 대해 역사적 자료의 내용을 검증하고 구체적인 구술조사를 통해 일본어학습의 동기, 교수용어의 문제, 교실 안팎의 언어습득환경에 대해 검토하였다. 또한, 동아시아지역 식민지학습자의 숫자를 포함한 현재의 상황과 그들의 일본(어)에 대한 의식을 기술한 다음 한국과 사정이 다른 중국 연변지역을 비교하면서 그 유사점과 상이점에 대해 논하였다.

The generations who learned the Japanese during the colonial period are decreasing in number every year due to aging. This generation could be considered as victims of forced learning during the colonial rule. Thus, an empirical study should be conducted on the learning process of the Japanese and the current status of this generation. Unfortunately, most previous studies are focused on the analysis through literature research. But recently, from the perspective of the <History of Japanese Language Learning> new interpretations have surfaced through the linguistic distribution policy during the colonial rule, the patterns of encountering Japanese people, and description of history regarding the Japanese. The study consists of the following parts. First, a fieldwork was conducted on subjects from East Asia who learned Japanese during the colonial period. This fieldwork includes investigations on colonial Japanese and its related educational system, class curriculums, teaching materials, and historical data on teachers and students. Second, the motivation of Japanese learning, the terms of teachers reference, language learning environment of in and out of the classroom have been reviewed through specific oral investigations. Furthermore, the current status including the number of East Asians who learned Japanese during the colonial period and their consciousness about the Japanese was described. This is followed by a discussion about the similarities and differences between Korea and the Yanbian region of China.
