A Content-based Online ESP Course Design for EFL Cyber University Students

사이버대학 EFL학생을 위한 온라인 ESP 수업 디자인

이 연구는 사이버대학의 온라인 ESP 수업의 내용과 영어에 대한 학생들의 인식을 살펴보았다. 이 연구의 참가자는 온라인 ESP수업을 수강한 사이버대학 학생들이며 연구자료는 설문을 통해서 수집되었다. 본 연구의 결과 온라인 EFL학습자들은 ESP 수업에서 영어와 수업내용에 대한 강한 필요성을 나타냈다. 수업 내용에 관해서는 각 전공의 학생들이 본인의 전공분야와 관련된 주제들을 선호했다. 영어에 관해서는 참가자 모두 말하기를 선호했는데 이것은 모두 영어 의사소통 기술에 관심이 많음을 시사하고 있다. 또한 참가자들은 ESP 수업의 필요성에 긍정적인 반응을 보여주 었다. 본 연구는 사이버대학의 효과적인 온라인 ESP수업 설계의 적용을 제안하고 있다.

This study explores the perceptions of EFL students on the course content and English of an ESP course in a cyber university. The participants in this study were 196 cyber university students who enrolled in an online English course. Data was collected through a questionnaire. The findings revealed that there was a strong need for the EFL online learners to acquire content knowledge of and more English proficiency for the ESP course. In terms of course content, the students, who had different majors, showed that they had their own preferences for themes related to their subject areas. As for their English language skills, the participants revealed a preference for more speaking skills, which indicates that students paid particular attention to their English communication skills. In addition, the participants expressed very positive responses regarding the necessity for ESP courses in general. Based on the results, this study offers suggestions for creation of effective online ESP course designs for cyber universities to consider.
