The aim of this paper is to introduce and review the methods and characteristics of writing Manchu in Hangeul, Korean alphabet, in the Manchu books published by Sayeogwon (司譯院), the bureau of translation during the Joseon Dynasty. I attempted to synthesize the previous research and summarize it from my own point of view. The usage of diacritical marks, that is, circles (゚), dots (、) and right angle brackets (」), was detailed. Furthermore, several kinds of correspondences between Hangeul and the Manchu script were found in the Manchu books. Although the correspondences were not easily grasped in some writings, in most cases Hangeul and Manchu script corresponded so systematically that one could generate accurate Manchu script forms based on the Hangeul.
