Advances in biotechnology have raised novel social and ethical issues in everyday life experiences. These days every student needs science education to be informed decision-makers on science related social issues. We examined the units on biotechnology in the Seventh Secondary Science Curriculum to evaluate if it could properly introduce the current technology as well as the social and ethical issues into secondary school science classroom. In the Seventh Curriculum, biotechnology was covered mostly in Biology Ⅰ and Biology Ⅱ which targeted students who sould specialize in science and engineering in the future. The general science were required to take did not contain subjects directly related to the current issues on biotechnology. This suggests that in the new curriculum most students do not have opportunity to study recent advances in biotechnology and its ethical, social implications in their science classes.
