Willy Brandt was a globalist. The background of Brandt’s life as a globalist was found in his socialist career, exile life in the scandinavian states, and many travels. Brandt’s Ostpolitik recognized East German as a nation, and it sought the coexistence with the eastern bloc. It aimed the improvement of relation between the West-East Germany. Brandt insisted that the Germany questions should be solved by the peaceful methods. He also insisted that the Germany questions could be solved only in the European peace. Brandt government(1969-1974) signed the bilateral treaties in Moscow and Warsaw in 1970. The Quadripartite Agreement of 1971 stabilized the future of West Berlin. West Germany and East Germany signed the Basic Treaty in 1972. These achievements greatly contributed the relaxation of tensions between the West-East Germany. Brandt’s Ostpolitik also contributed to the Europe’s peace. Brandt insisted that the peace didn’t mean only the absence of war. He thought that the peace was also obtained through the economic and cultural cooperations between Germany and other European states. He aimed the establishment of the European federal states. He thought that the united Germany would be achieved in the European federal states. Brandt had already the ideas of European federalism in the time of exile. He thought the United States of Europe could become the alternative to overcome the negative nation states. He tried to find the future of Germany in the European Federal states.
