The Origin and Development of the Johannine Community

요한 공동체는 초기 기독교의 발전에 있어서 매우 중요한 역할을 하였다. 그들은 요한총서를 작성하였고, 초기 기독교의 주도권을 장악하기 위해서 베드로의 후계자들과 경쟁하였다. 사해 문서의 발견은 요한총서의 신학을 재평가하는데 결정적으로 중요한 역할을 하였다. 그것이 요한 공동체의 신학이 근본적으로 유대문화의 소산임을 밝혔기 때문이다. 이 논문은 요한 공동체의 인적 구성이 어떻게 변화했는가를 검토하였다. 인적 구성의 변화가 그 집단의 신학과 사유 구조의 변화의 기본 요소이기 때문이다. 요한 공동체의 초기 구성원은 세례 요한의 제자들이었다. 요한복음은 공관복음과 달리 이 사실을 명확하게 서술하고 있다. 요한복음이 이원론적인 세계관을 펼치고 있는 것은 이 때문일 것이다. 이후 여러 종류의 사람이 요한 공동체에 합류하였다. 그 가운데 사마리아인이 중요하다. 요한 공동체에 참여한 사마리아인의 숫자는 매우 컸다. 요한 공동체와 논쟁하였던 유대인이 요한 공동체를 사마리아인이라고 불렀다는 사실이 이를 입증한다. 사마리아인은 요한공동체가 고기독론을 발전시키는데 기여하였을 것이다. 요한 공동체가 회당에서 추방당한 후에는 이방인들이 대거 유입하였다. 요한 공동체가 유대인에 대한 선교를 포기하고 이방인 선교를 적극적으로 펼쳤기 때문이다. 이방인의 대거 유입은 요한 공동체가 이방인 문화를 포용하는 결과를 낳았을 것이다. 따라서 요한 공동체 신학의 변화는 근본적으로 인적 구성의 변화와 긴밀히 연계되어 있다.

Johannine Community played very important roles in the development of the early Christianity. It produced writings of John and high christology and competed against the followers of Peter to take the lead of early Christianity. The discovery of Dead Sea Scrolls served as a momentum to revaluate the writings of John . Because they showed the world view of writings of John was fundamentally Jewish. Therefore, the study of the Johannine Community is very important to understand the development of early Christianity. This paper tried to examine closely the change of personal composition of the Johannine Community. Because the change of members was to be the most important factor in the change of the world view of the community. The first members of the Johannine Community were the former disciples of John Baptist. The fourth Gospel wrote this fact contrary to the Synoptic Gospels. The fact that the first members of the Johannine Community were the former disciples of John Baptist contributed much to understand the dualistic world view of the fourth Gospel. Several kinds of people joined the Johannine Community. Among them Samaritans were the most important. The number of Samaritans who joined Johannine Community was so great that the Jews who disputed with the Johannine Community regarded the Johannine Community as Samaritans. The Samaritans triggered the hostility of Jews as they catalyzed the high Christology. After banished from synagogues, the Johannine Community tried to mission Gentiles. As their efforts gained successes, the majority of the members of the Johannine Community was changed into Gentiles. In sum the change of members of the Johannine Community was the key role in the changing of the world view of the Johannine Community.
