Welcoming the 10th year of the Korean Society for German History, this paper tried to analyse the systemic growth and academic development of German history study. To do this, the process of establishment the Korean Society for German History and followed activities were introduced or analyzed. Futhermore, the performance of studies that have been progressed in last 10 years for German history area was addressed. The establishment of the Korean Society for German History had been delayed as long as 10 years compare to the Korean Society for American history or English history. Nevertheless, Korean Journal of German Studies, a semi-annual journal, was published along with the establishment, and academic presentation has been held twice per semester. In addition to open German history academic symposium in every other year, various international academic conferences has been held. Through organizing academic conference for East Asia German history scholars, an effort to set up ‘German history in our point of view’ has been made with not only German but also Chinese and Japanese German history scholars. In academic perspective, German history study has been achieved enormous quantitative increase in last 10 years. Since 2001, achievement in research has been rapidly increased, and published papers and books are more than 50 per year. Also, German history related good guide books or professional books have been translated and published. The most critical academic trend disclosed in last 10 years is the rapid increase of studies for contemporary history. In 2009-2010, papers covering post World War 1 comprised the 3/4 of total papers. Also, overcoming of past(Vergangenheitsbewaltigung), division and unification, history of DDR, confliction and reconciliation on text book are addressed as main subjects along with a strong critical mind for Korean reality. In the perspective of methodology or historical theory, the contribution by German history study through the study of history of everyday life, culture of memory, and trans-national history to domestic history academic is not inconsiderable. The internationalization of German history study was also promoted. Now, the remain task is to make German history studies as of now move beyond quantitative growth and achieve qualitative development. To do that, more elaborate study or more advanced international collaboration would be required. Also, more balance development for German history study, beyond overweighted studies on a few topics, need to be found.
