For the purpose of informing residents and passers-by about the service of a building, outdoor advertising signs in a business district convey originally the information about the business type, trade name and contact details. Differently from the traditional function, which was mainly defined to advertise a business, modern public designs have been exploring to the extent that they, performing the harmonized balance with the environment, could provide customers with convenience, passers-by with delight and visitors of the city with useful guidance and visual attractions. Currently, Jangsaengpo in Ulsan, in spite of its unique infrastructure consisted by a Whale museum, Whale research center and Jangsaengpo harbor which is entitled to be a base camp for modern whaling industry, has been fading away its identity characterized as a special province of whaling culture pursuing a echo friendly city, of which the main cause can be concluded to be the disorganized and old- fashioned outdoor signs of the city made of flats. that is one of the anti ecology materials. The main purpose of this essay is to promote, focusing on the main commercial area in Jangsaengpo, a purposeful development of outdoor advertising signs using stainless steels in order to construct harmonized and beautiful appearance of the city as a host of the whale festival, to maximize the durability and usage of the signs and to prevent the erosion caused by the salinity of the area, which will in turn enforce the competitiveness and improve the impression of the city.
