The present study compared two mathematical modelling methods for DC motor. Assuming that DC motor keeps constant velocity by back emf, the model was built 1st order system. In other words, the model consists of the amplitude of steady state and the time constant parameters. By applying the unit step voltage to DC motor, the velocity variation of the DC motor is measured through encoder sensor. Depending on how to quantify the time constant, the present study devised two method. First, the velocity data transforms curve type into linear type using log operation. The slope of the line is presumed the time constant of the system. Second, because the time constant is located 63.2% point of the velocity, the corresponding time value is found using interpolation. To evaluate the accuracy of the mathematical modelling, the present study compared each simulation data and experiment data. Consequently, second method is more accurate than first method.
