A Study on the Characteristics of Surface and Roundness in the ED-Drilling

This paper describes the machining characteristics of the sintered carbide and die steel by electric discharge drilling with various tubular electrodes. Four types of electrode which have different diameter and three kinds of workpiece which have different thickness are used for a given ED-machining conditions. The sizes of the crater produced by electrical discharge on the surface of die steel is greater than those of sintered carbide. The surface roughness of sintered carbide is 1.58 times larger than those of die steel. The average roundness of machined hole of die steel is larger than that of sintered carbide.
