Although global outdoor clothing markets recommend using fluoro carbon-free water repellent agents and fluoro-free water repellent agents, domestic markets are still using water repellent agents with fluoro 6 carbon nowadays. We treated an outdoor wear fabric with C8 type water repellent agent containing perfluorooctanoic acid(PFOA), non-PFOA C6 type water repellent agent, and fluoro-free water repellent agent. After comparing the water and oil repellency of each agents, the overall results were as below. 1. Fluoro-free water repellent agent had higher pH value compared to non-PFOA C6 type water repellent agent. 2. In case of C8 type water repellent agent containing PFOA and non-PFOA C6 type, water repellency level was higher when treated on Polyester than on Polyamide. After washing,non-PFOA C6 type had higher water repellency level than C8 type containing PFOA. 3. Fluro-free water repellent agent needs to be highly concentrated in order to have same water repellency level with C8 type containing PFOA and non-PFOA C6 type. 4. In case of C8 type water repellent agent containing PFOA and non-PFOA C6 type, oil repellency level was higher when treated on Polyester than on Polyamide. Also, the higher the concentration of water repellent agent, the higher the level of oil repellency.
