It is very important to form stable back bead and improve productivity in middle-thick plate butt joint welding of a ship or steel structures. Presently many overlay welding processes associated with plasma arc welding has been developed, but development of processes related to plasma keyhole welding is very run short. Therefore, welding process is especially needed to form stable back bead without backing bar and improve productivity simultaneously in middle-thick plate butt joint welding of a ship or steel structures. The purpose of this study is to develop a plasma-MAG tandem 1pass welding process for middle-thick plate Y-groove butt joint, reducing process, forming back bead and improving productivity.
