Synthesis of Carbon Film for Passivation of Metals

Carbon-based materials have been widely investigated for passivation of metallic parts. In this study, laser annealing process was applied to synthesize a carbon film as a passivation layer an a metallic surface. The carbon film was obtained by pre-annealing under hydrogen environment followed by main annealing under methane environment. The pre-annealing process was indispensable to form the carbon film. The carbon film having high crystallinity was achieved by main-annealing with a laser energy of 1800 mJ/cm2. Main-annealing for only 1 minute was sufficient to form the high quality carbon film at the laser energy.
