A study on the gas phase boron infiltration on the steel matrix has been conducted. The behavior of the boronizing gas under various conditions inside of the reactor has been caculated by means of thermodynamic model developed for this study. The atom ratio of H/Cl, equilibrium constant of the governing equations and the total working pressure have been used to set the equations The model shows that if the temperature is high enough, the mixture of H/BCl3 can be dissociated appreciable amount. Therefore, the temperature of gas phase should keep as low as possible to increse the utilization efficiency. By increasing the partial pressure of hydrogen, the utilization efficiency of BCl3 increasesslightly This study shows that by using the plasma discharge condition one can reduce the working temperature with high reaction rate
