A Study on Developing the Duty Cycle Algorithm for Energy Saving of the Hospital Building - Applied to the S Hospital -

The purpose of this study is developing duty cycle algorithm. The duty cycle means the power saving control of the AHU. In this study, to develop the optimized duty cycle algorithm, a preliminary experiment is conducted for S Hospital. The preliminary experiment is conducted in three cases - the case of existing operation, the case of 30 minutes working-10 minutes pause and the case of 40 minutes working?20 minutes pause. The result of the experiments shows about daily 11% electric energy saving. The duty cycle algorithm considering the indoor comfort is developed based on the analysis of experiments. This duty cycle algorithm has three feature. First, it orders a pause after the reoperation time is previously calculated. Second, it works under the condition that RA temperature is lower than set-temperature. As the RA temperature goes a safe range, it has the long pause time. Lastly, the pause time can be adjusted through the various input value by user according to the building feature. However, the suggested duty cycle algorithm don’t have the performance verification stage yet, so it’s required to conduct the performance verification stage in the next study.
