Developing close friendly cooperative relations between the citizens of Korea and Japan is very meaningful as the infrastructure to promote mutual cultural and historical understanding. Comparison of the Polish-German and Korean-Japanese socio-cultural relationship allows Korea to understand the problems of the Korean- Japanese relationship and derive valuable lessons on how to improve it. If the gap in economic development and degree of interest in the partner country stands as obstacle to German-Polish youth exchange, the difference in level of awareness about need to settle the record of past is the primary reason for conflict between Korea and Japan. Despite differences discussed above, exchange between the citizens in each of the two cases clearly shows that direct contact and dialogue, joint participation in programs, and the experience of home stay arrangements afford good opportunities to overcome prejudices against the partner country. By conducting in-depth studies on the vast experiences of German-French-Polish’ exchange programs over the years, Korea can glean many valuable lessons. Successful development of Korean-Japanese socio-cultural exchange will serve as an important model for the promotion of socio-cultural exchange and improvement of mutual understanding of culture and history between China and other Asian countries and Korea.
