A Study on Increasing Productivity and Reducing Cost through the Application of the Energy-Efficient Design

Property owners, facility managers and building users can generate large savings either with the use of energy-efficient devices such as compact fluorescent lamps or with the application of the energy-efficient design techniques. To examine these research hypotheses this study throughly examines some renovation projects and new construction projects mainly accomplished in abroad. The results of this study show that the combination of energy efficiency and improved workplace environment acquired by the utilization of its unique design concept can reduce building operation costs and enhance its productivity. In addition, these maintenance efforts can contribute to increase the building s asset value according to the result of this study. Based on these findings this study proposes that in order to cut unnecessary operating and maintenance costs of any building, facility managers of the building need to have a reasonable volume of record regarding the operation and maintenance of the building and clear understanding about the building s design concept.
