칼빈의 그리스도의 선재성 이해에 대한 고찰

A Reflection on Calvin s Understanding of the Preexistence of Christ

본 논문의 목적은 칼빈의 신학을 통하여 선재성 교리의 필요성과 중요성을 환기시키는데 있다. 그는 ‘칼빈주의적인 외각’으로 일컬어 지는 교리를 통해서 그리스도의 성육신을 설명한다. 그의 그리스도의 선재성에 대한 이해는 구원론과 밀접한 관련성을 갖고 있다. 이런 점에서 그의 그리스도의 선재성에 대한 이해는 구원론적이다. 칼빈은 그리스도의 선재성을 삼위일체 하나님과의 관계 가운데 논의하고 있다. 그의 신학 속에서 경륜적 삼위일체 사상이 확실히 두드 러지게 나타나는 것은 사실이다. 그러나 내재적 삼위일체론도 부정 하지 않고 다양하게 표현되고 있다. 만약 경륜적 삼위일체만을 말하게 된다면 양태론(modalism)에 빠질 위험이 있다. 이와 반대로 경륜적 삼위일체와 관련 없이 내재적 삼위일체만을 논하게 되면 사변적 으로 흐르기 쉽다. 그러나 칼빈은 경륜적으로 계시된 성경을 통해 삼위일체를 말하고 이를 토대로 내재적 삼위일체를 말하고 있다. 그러 므로 칼빈은 양태론과 사변적 신학에 빠지지 않으면서 그리스도의 선재성을 주장하고 있다. 결론적으로 칼빈의 그리스도의 선재성에 대한 이해로는 현대 신학자들의 견해처럼 역사적 예수와 신앙의 그리스도라는 구별이 없다. 그리고 그리스도의 사역에만 치중하므로 양자론(adoptionism)에 빠질 수 위험성도 배제시켰다. 이런 점에서, 칼빈의 그리스도의 선재성 교리는 기독교를 인간 성취의 종교로 변화시키는 것을 막아준다. 그 뿐만 아니라 그리스도의 선재성에 대한 방향 설정과 토대를 마련 하는 좋은 본보기가 된다.

This paper calls attention to the necessity and importance of the doctrine of preexistence in Calvin’s theology. Calvin described the doctrine of the incarnation by utilzing extra Calvinisticum. His understanding of Christ s preexistence has a close relationship with soteriology. As a consequence, his understanding of the preexistence of Christ is salvational. Calvin has also discussed the preexistence of Christ in the relationship of the Trinitarian God. It is true that the economic Trinity appears definitely in his theology. And the immanent Trinity is also expressed in various ways without being denied. When the economic Trinity is strongly affirmed at the cost of the immanent Trinity, there is no way to avoid the risk of modalism. In direct opposition to this extreme, one cannot evade the danger of speculative theology if the immanent Trinity is strongly favored instead of the economic Trinity. However, Calvin knew how to steer clear of Charybdis of modalism and Scylla of speculative based upon his sound and biblical understanding of the relationship between the doctrine of the Trinity and christology. Calvin spoke of the Trinity in his knowledge of Scripture, which had been revealed in economic terms. Then he was able to discuss the immanent Trinity from the right perspective. His understanding of the preexistence of Christ is founded upon a balanced and yet biblical view of the doctrine of the Trinity. According to his understanding of the preexistence of Christ, Calvin would have rejected a dichotomy between the historical Jesus and the Christ of faith, the result of speculation in modern theology. For these reasons, the preexistence of Christ, as it was espoused by Calvin, can prevent Christianity from being driven into a religion of achievement. Furthermore, Calvin would direct us into a right direction as we attempt to have a better understanding of the preexistence of Christ
