칭의의 6중 원인에 대한 알렉산더 꼼리와 존 칼빈의 연속성, 불연속성, 그리고 신학적 함의

John Calvin and Alexander Comrie’s Continuity, Discontinuity, and Theological Implication on the Sixfold Causality of Justification

본고는 나더러 레포르마치(Nadere Reformatie) 시대의 네덜란드 신학자 알렉산더 꼼리(Alexander Comire, 1706-1774)와 개혁 신학의 탁월한 선생이었던 존 칼빈(John Calvin, 1509-1564)이 전개한 칭의론을 칭의의 6중 원인(작용인, 질료인, 형상인, 도구인, 공로인, 목적인)의 빛 아래서 고찰해 볼 것이다. 칭의 사건을 설명함에 있어 6중 인과관계의 틀은 유용하다. 칭의 사건은 하나님의 구원 계획과 실행, 그리스도의 능동적, 수동적 순종, 그리스도 의의 전가, 신자의 믿음, 하나님의 영광 등 다양한 칭의 요소들을 복합적으로 고려할 필요가 있기 때문에 6중 인과관계의 틀은 칭의 사건을 이해하 는데 있어 훌륭한 도구적 장치이기 때문이다. 특히 로마 가톨릭 교회, 아르미니우스주의, 반(反)율법주의, 신(新) 율법주의, 하이퍼(hyper) 칼빈주의 등이 전개한 칭의론은 전통적칭의론의 틀과 사뭇 다른 점이 있었기 때문에 개혁 신학자들은 다양한 인과관계들을 선용(善用)하여 전통적 칭의론을 수호해나갔다. 본고는 칭의의 6중 원인에 대한 꼼리와 칼빈의 시각 사이의 연속성과 비연속성에 주목할 것이고 이 연속성과 비연속성을 기반으로 어떠한 신학적 함의가 그 안에 숨어 있는지를 발견할 것이다. 이러한 논의를 통해 과연 칭의의 원인을 건전하게 바라보는 신학적 시각은 무엇인지가 최종적으로 드러나게 될 것이다.

The study examines John Calvin(1509-1564) and Alexander Comrie’s(1706-1774) doctrine of justification in light of the sixfold causality of justification(i.e., efficient, material, formal, instrumental, meritorious, final cause). In order to understand the doctrine of justification condignly, the sixfold causality of justification is useful and valuable, since justification should be dealt with various dimensions such as God’s salvific plan and its execution, Christ’s active and passive obedience, imputation of Christ’s righteousness, believer’s faith, God’s glory, etc. To defend the traditional and biblical doctrine of justification, Reformed theologians made good use of several causalities of justification against the doctrine of justification asserted by Roman Catholic Church, Arminianism, antinomianism, neonomianism, hyper-Calvinism, etc. Specifically this study pays attention to the continuity and discontinuity between Calvin’s and Comrie’s view of the sixfold causality of justification. Based on the discussion, the study will find the theological implication and sound theological viewpoint on the doctrine of justification.
