A Design Proposal for the Rehabilitation of Seoul Nambu Terminal

This paper aims to propose a remodeling design for Seoul Nambu Terminal located in Seocho-dong, Seoul. The terminal has been in charge of a large floating population between several cities over 25 years. However, as time passed, the terminal raises problems due to worn-out facilities, such as danger of falling behind facility, sense of difference among other buildings and people, and deterioration of accessibility. Thus we propose a new Seoul Nambu Terminal that has much more space for people and harmonizes with local prospect. For the remodeling design, this project adopt the way it uses existing landscape to remain the main flow which has supported the terminal for 25 years. In this plan, physical distance between terminal and people, anyone who try to use, pass by or live near by this facility, is declined by the lowering retaining wall. Consequently, thanks to the road that is penetrating the building mass, overall structure of the building has its own unity with green spaces. The special features of open space along the road enables it to be excited for the people who revisit Seoul Nambu Terminal.
