A new soybean cultivar for soy-paste, ‘Cheonsang’, was developed from the cross between ‘Suwon190’ and ‘Hwangkeumkong’ by soybean breeding team in the National Institute of Crop Science (NICS) in 2008. A promising line, SS98206-41-1-3-1-1, was selected and designated as ‘Milyang176’. It was prominent and showed good performance from regional adaptation yield trials (RYT) for two years from 2007 to 2008 and released as the name of ‘Cheonsang’. It has a determinate growth habit, white flower, grey pubescence, yellow seed coat, yellow hilum and large spherical seed (24.8 grams per 100 seeds). Soybean, Cultivar, Cheonsang, Soy-pasteThe ‘Cheonsang’ is resistant to bacterial pustule and moderately resistant to soybean mosaic virus, the major soybean disease in Korea. The average yield of ‘Cheonsang’ was 2.34 ton per hectare in the RYT carried out for two years from 2007 to 2008, which was similar to the check variety, ‘Taekwangkong’.
