中學校 實業ㆍ家政科 敎育課程 運營의 調査硏究

The purpose of this paper is to suggest some alternative ways to improve the efficiency of the education in vocational and home economics courses. I analyzed the educational system mainly by the way of questionaire sent to 217 randomly selected teachers from 118 schools who teach the courses at middle schools in the areas of Seoul, Cheon-Nahm and Cheon-Book Province. Based upon data collected through questionaire, I found out a couple of problems to tackle to achieve the educational goal in a more efficient way. The current courses in the field are not adequately tailored to each community needs. For instance, students in urban community and rural district are taught the same subject in the same way in spite of the fact that both groups have different needs for the education. About 56.7 percent of respondents of questionaire confirmed the fact insisting the main feature of the education in the field is represented by uniformity and theoryoriented teaching. The ultimate goal and curriculum of the education is evaluated to be inconsistent with reality. It is pointed out that some part of the text book is not applicable to real world. Furthermore, the importance of vocational education for those 34.7 percent of middle school graduates who terminate their educational career has been ignored. Lack of experimental facilities and equipment is the bottleneck to the achievement of educational goal. Most teachers (about 68.7 percent of the respondents) believe that it is necessary to develop better study materials to help students underatand more clearly the subjects discussed in class. The number of schools without any audio-visual teaching aids stands at35.6 percent. The case exemplifies critical shortage of teaching aids. Workload of teachers appears to be aggravated by extra job and clerical works, which makes it diffcult for teachers to devote themselves fully to teaching job. In conclusion, curriculum and course works in vocational and home economics courses should be reorganized in such a way to improve the efficiency of education. To maximize the efficoncy of the education, middle schools should be broken down into homogeneous groups in terms of students need for vacational education and courses should be realigned in relation to each group. Enough budget allocation should be examined carefully to build up teaching aids which will contribute to practical education.
