The effectiveness of continuity of material changes in middle school and high school textbooks was investigated on the basis of the sixth curriculum. For this purpose, five types of classification rules are set up for analysis of the concept: initial, overlap, development, gap, and wide gap. The results indicated that development and gap categories were 50% and 30%, respectively, from middle school science textbooks to high school common science textbooks, and that overlap and development were 60% in the middle school science textbooks to chemistry Ⅰ textbooks in the high school. Well developed sequence of terms are basic law of atoms and molecules, molecular weight, and ion and chemical formulas. The areas of a big gap from middle school science textbooks to high school chemistryⅠand Ⅱ textbooks are atom energy level and electrode potentials. The chapter on chemical kinetics in the high school common science textbooks is a new concept and a gap from middle school science textbooks. Therefore this chapter needs to be changed to treat either acid-base equilibrium, solutions, or atom, molecules and ions.
