Analysis of Importance for Service Factors of Car Ferry Companies between Pyeongtaek-Dangjin Port and China

This research determined the main service factors of car ferry companies at Pyeongtaek Port in South Korea based on the expansion of cargo volume or increase of the car ferry course between Pyeongtaek and China and corresponding strategies to reinforce service competitiveness. To asses the importance of the competitiveness factors of shipping companies between Pyeongtaek-Dangjin Port and China, the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process was used. The results were as follows: First, car ferry companies, to maintain properness of the shipping cost and for the customers consider it to be proper, need to reduce the shipping cost. through employing economies of scale. This can be done through strategic alliance among shipping companies by operating many sea routes for one shipping company. Second, the speed of shipping between Pyeongtaek-Dangjin Port and China should be ascertained. If customs entry becomes quicker by expanding the labor force for customs inspection and introducing inspection equipment like x-ray, competitiveness of car ferry companies between PyeongtaekDangjin Port and China will be reinforced.
