경남방언과 방언사전

Gyeongnam Dialects and Dialect Dictionary

이 글은 경남방언의 성격과 구획 문제를 통해 경남방언을 개관하고, 최근 발간된 「경남방언 사전」에 대한 몇 가지 사항을 정리하기 위해 집필한 것이다. 제2장에서는 경남방언의 성격을 음운적 측면(자음 체계, 모음 체계, 운소 체계, 일부 음운 현상), 문법적 측면(격 표시의 조사와 후치사, 의미 표시의 후치사, 종결어미, 연결어미), 어휘적 측면(성조로써 구별되는 어휘, 혼태어, 특수의 미어)으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 제3장은 경남방언 구획에 관한 것이다. 분명한 방법론을 갖고 접근한 최명옥 (1994/1998)과 그 정신을 따른 필자의 논의 결과를 소개했다. 그리고 두 논의를 통합해 보면, 경남방언은 크게 경남동부방언과 경남서부방언으로 나뉘고, 경남 서부방언은 다시 북부ㆍ남부ㆍ서부 방언으로 나뉠 수 있을 가능성을 언급하였다. 제4장은 󰡔경남방언 사전󰡕 편찬과 관련된 것이다. 이 사전을 펴낸 주체인 사단법인 경남방언연구보존회를 잠시 소개하고, 올림말 수집의 방법, 사전 편찬의 과정, 이 사전의 특징 및 개선점을 간단하게 개관하였다.

This paper has been written for the purpose of surveying Gyeongnam dialects with the discussion of their traits and demarcation, and arranging some points in Gyeongnam Dialect Dictionary recently published. In chapter 2, the author reviewed the characters by phonological aspects(consonant and vowel systems, prosodic system, some other phonological phenomena), grammatical aspects(case markers, postpositions, final endings, conjunctive endings), lexical aspects(lexical items distinguished by tones, blended words, unique words with specialized meaning). In chapter 3, the author dealt with the demarcation of Gyeongnam dialects. He introduced the works of Myeongok Choi(1994, 1998) which had the definite methodology related to it, and this work of mine which followed the same theoretical basis of Choi(1994, 1998). So if the above two discussions are integrated, Gyeongnam dialects could be largely divided into two parts in the first place, Eastern Gyenognam Dialect and Western Gyenognam Dialect; the latter in turn into three parts, North-Western Gyenognam Dialect, South-Western Gyenognam Dialect, and West-Western Gyenognam Dialect. In chapter 4, the author dealt with the editing and compiling of Gyeongnam Dialect Dictionary . He briefly introduced Corporate of Allied Association for Kyungnam Dialect as the main compiling body of this dictionary, and taking the general view of the method collecting entries, the real process of compilation, the peculiar characters of this dictionary, and its improving points.
