In 1948, the role of veterinary medicine in human health was recognized when the Veterinary Corps was integrated into the Army Medical Department in the Republic of Korea Army. Their mission of military service is to provide food safety and inspection services, zoonotic disease prevention and control, laboratory animal medicine works for medical research support, and clinical veterinary service for government owned animals. However, the true dimensions and contributions of veterinary medicine are much broader and reflect expanding societal needs and contemporary challenges to animal and human health as well as to environment protection.
