최첨단 시대에 살고 있는 우리 인류의 신체적 변화 중 하나가 외모 변화라고 볼 수 있다. 남녀 구분 없이 자신의 외모를 가꾸는데 시간과 돈을 투자하는데 주저하지 않는 시대에 살고 있으며, 자기 자신의 외모를 잘 가꾸는 것 또한, 사회에서의 경쟁력의 일환이라고 할 수 있다. 이 중 풍성한 모발이 외모에서 차지하는 비중 또한 적지 않게 차지하고 있는 것을 알 수 있으며, 탈모나 다소 비어보이는 모발 수를 가리기 위해 다양한 방법 들이 행하여지고 있다. 요즘 관심이 많아지고 탈모인들이 선호하고 있는 모발 증모에 대해 문헌적 연구를 하고자 하였으나, 증모술에 대한 연구 방법이 희박한 관계로 탈모인들이나 빈모인들을 대상으로 시행하고 있는 미용업계와 트리콜로지스트들의 방법들의 이론적 개념들을 정리하고 고객에게 반영된 이미지를 분석하고자 하였다. 결과적으로 증모술은 시대적 변천에 따라 가발과 탑피스등 기존 가발제품들과는 전혀 다른 아이디어로 나오게 된 시술방법이라고 할 수 있으며, 개인의 인상과 전체적인 이미지에도 큰 영향을 미쳐, 사회에서의 외모 경쟁력, 이미지 변화에 매우 높은 호감도를 형성한다 란 걸 알 수 있었다. 이로 인해, 모발 증모술은 겉으로 비쳐지는 형태적 이미지뿐만 아니라 심리적으로 느끼게 되는 심리적 이미지 형성에도 영향을 미치는 것을 알 수 있다.
