A Study on Kim Myung Soon s novel “Looking Back”

이 논문은 김명순의 소설「도라다볼때」를 대상으로 작품 속 인물의 욕망과 사건의 결 을 추동하는 서사의 욕망 체계를 복합적으로 살펴보고자 하였다. 본고는 ‘욕망의 체계로서 텍스트’라는 관점에서 두 층위의 욕망을 고찰하였다. 하나는 인물의 욕망이고 다른 하나는 서사 담화를 구성하는 플롯 자체의 욕망이다. 즉 인물의 욕망에 의해 사건이 발생하고 연속되어 나가는 동시에 플롯에는 특정 의도를 전달하기 위해 사건을 연속시키는 작가의 욕망이 있다.「도라다볼때」(개고본)의 소련이 보여준 욕망은 사랑하는 사람을 찾아가는 에로스적 욕망이다. 상대방 송효순이 유부남이었기에 그를 향한 사랑은 윤리적으로 비난받을 상황이었고, 지속적으로 소련은 사랑의 욕망을 억압한다. 그러나 인간이 지닌 생명 보존의 힘은 모든 한계를 극복하고 그녀로 하여금 에로스적 욕망의 발산을 추동한다. 그러나 초판본이라 할 수 있는 조선일보 연재본「도라다볼때」에서는 소련이 자살하는 것으로 결말이 지어진다. 이는 타나토스적 욕망이 소설로 형상화되었음을 보여준다. 개고본과 연재본의 소련이 보여준 욕망의 흐름은 에로스 대 타나토스로 각기 다르게 형상화되었지만, 모든 플롯이 그러하듯, 서사의 사건이 연속되고 마무리되는 과정은 에로스와 타나토스의 역동적 구조 속에 욕망 충족에 따른 타나토스의 실현을 보여준다. 특히 연재본은 인물의 자살로 작품을 끝냄으로써 플롯을 마무리하는 욕망과 인물의 욕망이 동일 구조임을 보여준다. 이외에도 김명순의 작품 활동에서 보여준 몇 가지의 특징들, 다수의 미완성 작품들과 동일 모티프의 반복 사용, 자기 변명으로서의 문학 등도 작가 욕망의 에로스적 측면과 타나토스적 양상이 길항하면서 나타난 면모라 할 수 있다.

This paper intends to investigate the desire system of narrative which combines the desire of the person and the event in the work with Kim Myung Soon s novel “ Looking Back” . This paper considers the desire of the two levels from the viewpoint of ‘text as a system of desire’. One is the desire of the character and the other is the desire of the plot itself, which constitutes narrative discourse. In other words, the event occurs by the desire of the person and goes out continuously. At the same time, the plot has a writer s desire to serialize events to convey specific intentions. The desire of Female characters-Solyeon in the “ Looking Back” (Remake work) is an erotic desire to find a loved one. Because Song Hyo-soon was a married man, love for him was ethically condemned, and Solyeon constantly suppressed the desire for love. However, the power of human preservation overcomes all limits and drives her to emit erotic desires. However, in the first edition Chosun Ilbo series “ Looking Back”, it is concluded that Solyeon commit suicide. This shows that the thanatos is shaped as a novel. The flow of desire that remake novels and serial novels showed was different. But the episode of the epic shows the fulfillment of the Tanatos in the dynamic structure of Eros and Tanatos. In particular, the serial version shows that the desire to finish the plot by the suicide of the person and the desire of the character are the same structure. In addition, several features of Kim Myung - sun s works, repetitive use of many unfinished works, repetition of similar motifs, self-excuse literature, appears that Eros and Tanatos of the novelist s desires are tense and conflicted.
