뮤지컬 『 헤드윅 』 , 『킹키부츠』 에 나타나는 젠더의 정체성

Gender Identity in Musical <Hedwig>, <Kinky Boots> : Focused on Judith Butler’s Queer Theory

1960년대 인권운동의 영향으로 동성애나 자유, 평화 등이 현대 사회문화 전반에 새로운 패러다임을 형성하였다. 퀴어 코드도 같은 맥락으로 볼 수 있다. 동성애, 드랙킹/퀸, 바이섹슈얼, 트랜스젠더, 기타 성소수자들의 정체성을 둘러싸고 다양한 담론들이 생산되었다. 이 담론들은 뮤지컬 에도 영향을 끼쳤고 그 중 뮤지컬 <헤드윅>, <킹키부츠>는 각각 트랜스젠더와 드랙퀸을 직접적인 소재로 삼았다. 여기서는 주디스 버틀러의 젠더 정체성 이론 가운데, 젠더의 역할, 모방성, 수행성, 에고 등의 키워드를 중심으로 작품을 분석하였다. <헤드윅>과 <킹키부츠>에 나타나는 젠더의 정체성은 사회의 보편적인 성을 표방하면서 주체의 재의미화를 도모하는 특징을 갖는다. 결국 두 작품의 주인공의 경우 주체가 호명에서 복종하지 않는 잉여물들이 현재의 권력에 대립하고 전복하지만, 이는 단순히 규범 속 권력의 재배치에 불과하다는 것이다. 즉 이미 사회규범상 정해져 있는 젠더의 역할 속에서 남자와 여자라는 보편적인 성 역할을 치환하는 것에 불과하다는 것을 볼 수 있다. 주인공의 정체성은 젠더와 같이 유동적인 의미를 가지며, 다중적인 젠더 정체성은 주체의 의미를 재구성하는 동시에 전복이 일어날 수 있는 가능성을 말해준다. 이러한 주체에 대한 재의미화 시도는 기존 성, 젠더, 섹슈얼리티까지 전복시키며 한 인간의 성향과 주체적 인 자아 정체성을 상징화한다.

Homosexuality, liberty, and peace have created a new paradigm in the whole modern social culture due to the influence of the human rights movement in the 1960s. Typically, queer has a variety of discourses about their identity, collectively referring to homosexuality, drag queen, bisexual, transgender, and other sex minorities. These discourses also influenced musical theater, among those productions, <Hedwig> and <Kinky Boots> made transducers and drag queen respectively as direct material. In this study, Judith Butler s gender identity theory analyzed musicals focusing on the keywords of gender, imitation, performance, and ego. The identity of gender in <Hedwig> and <Kinky Boots> is characterized by promoting beautification of the ashes of the subject while expressing the universality of society.
