(Factors Affecting the Type of 6th Industrialization and Farm Income)

This study analyzes the factors that affect farmers’ decision on the type of 6th industrialization activities. A special attention has been paid to the degree to which the types of 6th industrialization affect farm income. Our results show that urban-rural return migration and the number of visitors at local festivals are positively related with participating all types of the 6th industrialization activities. The gender of household head and major crop are found to affect farmers’ choice of the types in different ways. Cultivation experience, the regional rate of participation in 6th industrialization, and information accessability tend to encourage farm households to choose activities related to direct marketing and farm restaurants. We also found that diversification strategies in the 6th industrialization activities are likely to increase farm income, validating positive outcomes of the 6th industrialization policies.
