An Empirical Study on Maritime Risk Management

The maritime industry, including marine transportation and seaports is a critical part of the economy of individual countries. Increasing globalization is leading to a growing competition in marine transportation and seaports. Globalization of markets or production has led to a rapid increase in vessel movements in many seaports. Further, most busy seaports may face several port risk issues. Moreover, the severe competition may put marine transportation and seaports at risk. This study aims at clarifying the determinants of maritime risk involved in seaport operation, based on theoretical foundations and empirical findings.
