Study on Utilization Strategies of Arctic Circle’s Resources and Northern Sea Route

Global warming is the most serious threat to the survival of humankind and a challenge is to find an effective solution in the near future for the sustainable growth of humanity. As a result, there is no reason to doubt that there is a decrease in the sea ice area and increase in the sea surface area of the Arctic Ocean. Paradoxically, this adverse effect enables the way to develop Arctic routes and Arctic resources that have not been economically viable due to sea ice. Therefore, the study analyzes the status of natural resource development in the High Arctic and the Arctic Ocean of neighboring countries that exercise direct influence on the Arctic Circle as their part of the territory is included in the High Arctic. The paper will also analyze the availability and economic feasibility of the Arctic route in Korea, thereby providing the basic data on the government s plan of the Arctic-related maritime policy.
