A Study on the General Standard of FTA Rules of Origin for Fisheries

The purpose of this study is to understand the general criteria of FTA rules of origin for fisheries products that Korea has concluded and enter into force, and to draw up future improvement plans through comparative studies. In other words, this paper will focus on the comparison between the agreements of the rules on the origin of FTAs of fisheries and major issues, and the implications for future FTA concluding process. To this end, we first clarified the range of aquatic products in the FTA and discussed the general criteria of the rules of origin from the comparison of the major FTAs. The analysis methods of this study are as follows. First, this study introduces a brief education about FTA. Then the study establishes definitions and theoretical backgrounds of country of origin for fisheries based on previous studies. Second, the study investigates the status of fisheries and trade in Korea. Third, the study analyses the rules of origin for fishery products in FTA and investigates the relationship between domestic and international regulations. Through this, the study ultimately aims to explore awareness on the general criteria for the rules of origin for fisheries products in the FTA and provide fundamental data for fishery trade.
