The demographic characteristics, affordability of tea, preferences for consuming green tea and black tea, and self-awareness of general health were analyzed in 290 adults living in urban areas. It was found that the high income people were significantly more likely to consume green tea of the brewed type, and have better health, and that the more highly educated women consumed less green tea of the tea-bag type than the less educated women. The strongest negative correlation was found to be between age and preference for the tea bag type. The frequencies of consumption of green tea and black tea were associated with the degree of income and level of education. The frequency of consumption of tea showed a statistically significant positive correlation with age. The affordability of the tea showed a statistically significant negative correlation with the tea price awareness of women with a monthly income of less than 3 million won. The preference for the can/bottle type of tea had a statistically significant negative correlation with age. Overall, men preferred the tea bag type, while those with a higher level of education or income or who were older preferred the brewed type. Among the lower income women, there was a statistically significant negative correlation between tea affordability and awareness of tea price. Therefore, it is necessary to produce various types of teas based on the sociological and demographic characteristics of the consumers to make the tea prices affordable.
