현실의 균형, 미래의 조화 그리고 민주적 이상향

Balance in Reality, Harmony in the Future and Democratopia : Future Possibilities and Visions through Cinema

이 글은 다양한 현실이 하나로 모아지는 과정에서 누락되고 빠져나가버린 것들을 다시 돌아볼 수 있는 인간의 가능성에 대해 논한다. 아테네의 직접민주주의 모델을 현실에서 적용하고 실험하기도 하고, 현실의 법과 제도를 통해서 역사의 뒤안길에 버려져 있던 편린들에 대한 관심을 제고하면서 사회의 변화를 시도하기도 하는 사람들이 여전히 있음에 이 글은 주목한다. 주관적 존재인 인간이 객관화시켜 자신을 바라볼 수 있는 중요한 장치 중 하나로서 영화의 상징체계에 주목하면서, 필자는 영화가 인간사회에 던지는 사회적 동력의 근원을 살펴보고 이를 통한 사회문제의 진단과 대책을 제시하면서 미래사회를 조명해볼 것이다. 다양한 요구가 그대로 가면 혼란이며 그 어느 것도 이루어질 수 없을 것이라는 2차원적 사고를 벗어나, 다수의 요청과 바람이 참여폭발이라는 부정적 상황으로 이행되지 아니하고, 동시적으로 일상에서 진행될 수 있다는 사상적 멀티플렉스(multiplex)와 이를 통해 도달하게 될 민주적 이상향(democratopia)의 가능성을 이 글에서는 살펴볼 것이다.

This article discusses the possibility of human beings to look back at things gone missing as various realities are gathered together. It draws on the aspirations of the people who try to change society by applying and experimenting with the model of Athenian direct democracy and by raising interest in the well-being that can be left behind by the laws and institutions of reality. Focusing on the symbolic system of cinema as one of the important devices reaching human subjectivity, I will examine the source of social power that movies can bring to human society, which can use them to diagnose social problems and take measures against them. In this way I will try to illuminate future society. It is confusing if various demands remain intact and unfulfilled. It is an ideological mulitplex in which many requests and wants cannot be carried out in the negative situation of participation explosion, but can be carried out simultaneously in daily life. Finally I will show the possibility of ‘democratopia’ than can be reached through it.
