The Influence of Medieval Arab Islamic Cultures on European Cultures

It is very well known that Islamic cultures in the Medieval Age had great influences on European cultures in the various fields. One of the main tools for transmitting the Islamic cultures to Europe was translation activities from Arabic texts to the Latin. But unfortunately this kind of subject has not been fully studied in the academic level. The influences of Arab Islamic culture on the Europe happened in many fields such as arts, agriculture, chemistry, music, potteries etc. The translation of Arabic documents in Latin paid carried out an important role in the cultural exchange. Many Arab descendent words like Chemistry, Alchemy, Algebra, Algorithm, sugar, … and Alcohol are the results of the cultural exchange. Besides periodic diplomatic contact, Sicily in southern Italy and Toledo in Spain took a pivotal role of exchange, which led to a new compositive culture called Norman-Arab-Byzantine culture. And the Crusaders also paid an important role in the cultural exchange of the two worlds mostly in the Antioch of the Levant.
