The residue depletion profile of chloramphenicol from milk was studied after intramuscular injection (IM) milking cow. The drug was administered as a single dose of 10 mg chloramphenicol per kg (body weight) twice a day for 3 consecutive days. Milks were collected before, during and after treatment. The chloramphenicol concentrations in milk were quantified by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Chloramphenicol concentration measured on the first day after the last dose peaked at 313.6 ng/g in milk. The drug residual levels were declined gradually, 0.4 ng/g in milk detected at 5 days after the final dose. The chloramphenicol residue levels in milk dropped to below the EU minimum required performance limit (EU MRPL 0.3 ng/g) on the 6th day of withdrawal of the drug.
