An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was developed for the detection of antibodies to Sarcoptes scabiei. This developed ELISA kit was compared with a commercial ELISA kit (Sarcotest, Bommeri, Netherlands) using experimental and field sera. The agreement of two ELISA kits was quite high (Kappa value: 0.73). A total 22 farms (39.3%) among 56 farms was positive and positive rate of pigs in positive farms was 25.5% with a serological test. This developed ELISA kit was applied to confirm eradication of sarcoptes by checking the antibody of pig after inoculation of drug in pig farms. The trial was conducted in 3 conventional piglet-producing herds designated A, B, C. All herds suffered from a subclinical but persistent infection with the sarcoptic mite. All animals were treated with acaricide (Ivomec, Merial, USA). After 7 month later, these animals were monitored by checking the levels of serum antibodies to Sarcoptes scabiei by an ELISA. The success of treatment may efficiently be monitored by measuring the levels of serum antibodies to S. scabiei.
