돼지에서 발생한 Streptococcus suis 2형 감염의 병리학적 관찰

Pathological findings of Streptococcus suis type 2 infection in piglets

Two piglets exhibiting lameness and nervous sign such as paddling were diagnosed as Streptococcus(S.) suis type 2 infection based on the results of gross findings, histopathology and bacterial detection confirmed by PCR. At necropsy, piglets were observed reddish and consolidation in apical and cardiac lobes of lungs, and yellow-whitish fibrin fragments in gyri and sulci of brain(cerebrum and cerebellum). Histopathologically, typical fibrinopurulent meningoencephalitis and bronchopneumonia were seen at brain, spinal cord and lung. S. suis was isolated from subarachnoid and subdura matter. In addition, the isolates were positive by S. suis-specific PCR. As a result, this case was confirmed as S. suis type 2 infection in piglets.
