한국 상담의 비교 문화적 고찰을 통한 상담의 활성화 방안 연구

A Study of Facilitating Strategy of Counseling in Korea through the Comparative-Cultural Perspective on Counseling

본 연구에서는 한국 상담의 활성화를 위한 일환으로 다문화적 상담의 필요성과 의의를 강조하면서 상담, 문화, 그리고 다문화적 상담의 관계를 살펴보았다. 또한 상담자의 관점에서 본 한국인과 한국 문화의 특성을 수직적 인간관계 중시, 가족 및 집단 지향성, 개인 정보 노출 자제, 고정된 성 역할로 나누어 이러한 변인들이 한국인들의 상담 활용에 미치는 영향을 조망하였다. 그리고 한국인들이 상담을 수치심과 오점의 원인으로 여기는 배경과 상담에 대한 상이한 기대, 상담에 관한 정보 부족과 잘못된 정보로 형성되는 상담에 대한 인식을 고찰하였다. 다음으로 상담 접근법, 상담자와 내담자 배경의 유사성, 그리고 미국 문화에의 동화를 상담과정과 성과에 영향을 미치는 요인들로 조명해 보았다. 끝으로, 상담에 있어서의 문화 내적 차이와 보편성을 비교해 봄으로써 한국인 내담자를 위한 안내 지침을 제시하였다.

The present study. emphasizing the need of multicultural counseling as a way of facilitating Korean counseling, reviewed the relationships among counseling, culture, and multicultural counseling. And it classified Koreans and their cultural characteristics from the perspective of the counselor by such variables as the appreciation of vertical relationship, family- and group-oriented tendency, the suppression of disclosure of private information, and relatively inflexible sex roles, and viewed the effects of these variables on utilization of counseling in Korea. In this study the background of why the Korean considers counseling as shame and stigma and the perceptions of counseling formed by misconceptions and misunderstandings were inquired in detail. In addition, it highlighted such significant factors of affecting counseling process and effectiveness as counseling styles (directive vs. nondirective), the similarities of the counselor\ s and the client\ demographic backgrounds, and the acculturation levels of American cultures. Finally, this study compared intracultural factors with universality in order to provide the instructional guidelines for counselors to enhance their understanding of Korean clients and increase their effectiveness in providing psychological intervention for them..
