A Study on the Research and Development of Elementary Social Studies Textbook on the Basis of the 7th National Curriculum

한 사회가 유지하고 있는 목적‧목표, 내용, 방법, 평가 등 공교육의 과정(過程) 전체에 영향을 미치는 요인은 일반적으로 교육시설, 교사, 교육제도, 교과서 등의 요인으로 범주화된다. 이중에서 교육의 전 과정과 가장 직접적으로 관련을 맺으면서 가장 강한 영향을 끼치는 것은 교과서 요인이다. 교과서의 기능은 교수‧학습 과정을 선도하여, 학생들로 하여금 세계에 대한 지식과 기능 및 태도를 형성할 수 있도록 안내하는 것이다. 교과서만이 교수‧학습 과정을 이끌어 가는 것은 아니다. 교사와 학습자의 노력, 교실의 시설환경, 제도적인 뒷받침 등 여러 가지 요인이 함께 작용해야 한다. 그러나, 교수‧학습의 관련변인 중에서 주변인은 교과서이다. 그 외에 제도(절대평가 혹은 수행평가), 교사의식(교육관), 교실환경(정보매체 설치) 등 여러 가지 변인이 있으며, 변인간 상호작용 효과는 영향력을 극대화할 수도 있다.

This study aimed at the research and development of exemplary social studies textbook for the 6th grade elementary students that intended to make self-directed, learner-centered, ability-differentiated learning interesting, easy without reference books. For this purpose, first of all, we made an effort to provide lots of data with the exemplary textbook, because it was thought that data play the key role to those kinds of learning. Needless to say, these efforts should be kept pace along with change of the viewpoint of textbook regarding a textbook as a bible. This research and development project suggest several significant implications as follows: First, the characteristics of the material of the exemplary textbook could be increased. Second, the point of view of constructivism was reflected in the exemplary textbook as a basic frame for the content construction system. The frame divided a unit and a lesson into several step for the self-directed learning. Third, the exemplary textbook marked an epoch in a textbook compilation. It was the first happening that \ book design\ concept was introduced in textbook development. Futher studies are to be recommended for development of a easy and convenient textbook.
