삶과 앎에 기초한 초등교육의 방향 탐색

A study on direction of elementary education based on life and knowing

본 연구는 삶과 앎에 대한 고찰을 통해 초등교육의 방향을 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 초등교육은 학습자의 삶과 앎에 기초하고 있다. 삶과 앎의 의미에서, 삶의 가치는 쾌락주의, 객관주의, 욕구이론으로 구분되며 앎의 성격은 객관주의, 상대주의, 간주관주의로 나뉠 수 있다. 이들은 각기 서로 다른 이론으로 구분되지만 공히 객관과 주관의 이분법적 경계를 지양하고 양자의 조화를 추구해 왔다. 교육에서의 삶과 앎은, 삶을 우위에 두는 아동중심교육과 앎을 우위에 두는 지식중심교육으로 대별되 는데, 이들은 공히 삶과 앎의 순환 관계에서 비롯된다. 이상을 바탕으로 한 초등교육의 방향성은 첫째, 초등교육은 ‘함’을 통해 ‘앎’에 도달해야 한다. 즉, 활동을 통해 교과에 접근해야 한다. 둘째, 초등교육은 아동 자신의 ‘앎의 욕구’를 발견하고 추구 해야 한다. 앎의 욕구는 학령기아동에게 가장 중요한 욕구이기 때문이다.

The purpose of this study was to inquire into direction of elementary education through investigation of life and knowing. Elementary education is based on the life and knowing. For the meaning of life and knowing, the value of life is separated by hedonism, objective theories, desire theory and the nature of knowing can be divided into objectivism, relativism, inter-subjectivism. Although they are separated by different theories, each of them avoided dichotomy boundary and pursued a blend of them. The life and knowing in education are divided child-centered education emphasized on life into knowledge-based education emphasized on knowing. Both of them are derived from the relationship between the cycle of life and knowing. Based on these studies, directions of elementary education are as follows. First, knowing must be reached through doing . In other words, subject matter should be approached through activities. Second, elementary education should seek to discover desires of children. Because the most important desire of school-age children is knowing.
