A Study on the Reduction of Educational Contents in the 2015 Revised National Science Curriculum :

최근 고시된 2015 개정 교육과정은 핵심역량을 반영하고 학생활동 중심으로 교실 수업을 개선하기 위한 방안으로서 핵심개념을 중심으로 한 교육내용 적정화를 교과 교육과정 개발의 주요 방향으로 중 하나로 삼았다. 이러한 배경에서 본 연구는 2009 와 2015 개정 초, 중학교 과학과 교육과정을 비교 분석하여 교육내용 적정화 정도를 검토해 보았다. 연구 결과, 두 교육과정의 과학과 수업 시수는 동일하게 유지된 한 편, 새 교육과정의 학습 주제 수는 증가하였다. 성취기준의 수는 새 교육과정의 모 든 학년군에서 기존 교육과정에 비해 20% 정도 감소하였으나, 개념(학습요소), 성취 기준 해설, 교수 학습 및 평가의 유의사항, 성취기준의 병합적 조정 등을 고려하여 분석한 교육내용량은 사실상 크게 감축되지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 교육내용 적정화 는 학생들에게 유의미한 학습 기회를 제공하기 위한 것이기 때문에 단순히 성취기 준의 개수를 줄여서 될 문제가 아니라, 교육내용이 제시하고 있는 개념적 지식과 수 행해야 하는 탐구활동의 수준 등을 수업 시수와 함께 고려하면서 이루어져야 한다. 또한 교육목표와 교육과정 개발의 방향을 염두에 두고, 철저한 숙고와 보다 더 엄격 한 기준에 따라 핵심개념을 선정하고 교육내용량을 실질적으로 감축할 필요가 있다.

As the measures to reflect the core competencies and also to improve the classroom lesson focusing on students activities, the 2015 Revised National Curriculum recently notified aimed for the reduction of the educational contents focusing on the core concepts. In this background, this study reviewed the degree of reducing the educational contents by comparatively analyzing the curriculum of science for elementary/middle school, revised in 2009 and 2015. In the results of the study, the number of science lesson hours for both curriculums was same while the number of learning topic for the new curriculum was increased. The number of items suggested as the achievement standards for the new curriculum was decreased about 20% in every grade group, compared to the existing curriculum. However, the volume of the educational contents analyzed by considering the concepts, explanation of achievement standards, instructions of teaching and evaluating, and the combined adjustment of the achievement standards was not largely reduced. Since the reduction of the educational contents is to provide significant learning opportunities to students, the level of research activities and the conceptual knowledge suggested by the educational contents should be considered together with the number of lesson hours, instead of just reducing the number of the achievement standards. Also keeping the education goal and the direction of curriculum development in mind, the core concepts should be selected on the basis of more thorough consideration and rigorous standards, and then the volume of the educational contents should be actually reduced.
