수학교과서 개발에 대한 연구 동향

A Synthesis of the Research Findings on Mathematics Textbooks

최근 수학과 교육과정이 부분적으로 수정 및 고시되었으며, 따라서 이번에 공포된 새 교육과정에 근거한 수학교과서가 곧 개발에 들어가게 될 것이다. 이에 본 연구는 수학교과서 개발과 관련한 다양한 연구물들을 검토 및 분석함으로써 새로운 수학교과서 개발을 위한 시사점을 제시하는데 그 목적이 있다. 연구 결과 수학교과서와 관련한 연구들은 대체로 교과서 개발을 위한 토대연구, 현행 수학교과서 구성에 대한 분석연구, 그리고 국가간 비교연구로 분류할 수 있었다. 교과서 개발을 위한 토대연구는 교육과정 개발 및 수학교과서 체제와 편찬 제도의 문제점에 대한 논의가 많았으며, 현행 수학교과서 구성에 대한 분석연구는 교과서 내용 체계와 전개상의 문제점을 구체적으로 분석하고 그에 대한 개선 방안을 제시하는 연구들이 주를 이루었다. 또한 남북한 수학교과서 비교연구는 통일 후의 상황에 대비하기 위한 기초연구로써 수학교육의 동질성 회복 차원에서 연구가 점차 증가하고 있는 추세이며, 국가간 비교연구는 우리나라 수학교과서를 다른 나라의 것과 비교 분석해 봄으로써 보다 낳은 수학교과서 개발을 위한 시사점을 얻는데 목적이 있으며 최근 비교의 대상도 점차 다양해지고 있다. 이러한 연구를 종합해 볼 때, 본 연구는 수학교과서 개발과 관련하여 다음과 같은 시사점을 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 우리나라의 교육환경에 적합한 교육과정 개발을 위해서는 짧은 시간 안에 문제를 해결하려는 관행에서 벗어나 문제를 보다 근본적으로 해결하기 위한 다양한 기초연구와 노력이 요구된다. 둘째, 획일적인 교과서만을 양산하도록 하는 현행 검정 제도를 획기적으로 개선함으로써 다양하고 질 높은 수학교과서 개발이 가능하도록 해야 할 것이다. 셋째, 학생들의 수학적 사고 활동을 신장시킬 수 있는 교과서 구성 방안에 대한 다양한 연구가 필요하다.

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the trend of research about mathematics textbooks and to suggest implications for the development of new mathematics textbooks based on the recently announced national curriculum of mathematics . As a result, studies about mathematics textbooks were classified generally as three categories, such as foundation research, research about present mathematics textbooks, and comparative studies. Foundation research deals with issues about the national mathematics curriculum and the framework and publishing system of mathematics textbooks. Research about present mathematics textbooks centers on finding out problems in contents of the current textbooks and suggesting alternative ways to improve the quality. Comparative studies with mathematics textbooks of North Korea aimed at investigating the similarity and differences of the textbooks between the two Koreas in order for preparing the situation after the unification, while comparative studies with other countries were performed to get implications for improving the quality of the current mathematics textbook. The synthesis of research findings about mathematics textbooks implies that fundamental studies about mathematics curriculum issues need to be performed to develop the better national mathematics curriculum appropriate to the educational context of Korea, and the inflexible review process about mathematics textbooks also needs to be changed to allow the diversity of mathematics textbooks. Finally, how to develop the framework of mathematics textbooks focused on students\ mathematical thinking is another issue to study.
