To study of skin whitening activity from ramulus Zizyphus jujuba. The ramulus Z. jujuba collected in Daejeon area were crushed and dried for 24 hours to obtain 600 g. The ramulus Z. jujuba were refluxed with MeOH and divided into four solvent fractions: hexane, ethyl acetate, butanol and H₂O. Each DPPH radical scavenging ability was confirmed. DPPH radical scavenging activity was measured at various concentrations with ascorbic acid as a positive control. At the concentration of 500 μg/mL, 90% in ascorbic acid and 91.96% in ethyl acetate fraction showed similar scavenging activity to ascorbic acid. Tyrosinase inhibition experiments were conducted at various concentrations using kojic acid as a positive control. Compared with 100 μg/mL concentration, kojic acid showed the highest inhibition at 100% and BuOH at 92%. As a result of fractionation of ramulus Z. jujuba , it is evaluated that the BuOH fraction can be utilized as a skin whitening agent because it shows a tyrosinase inhibition effect.
