Effects of Modifying Factors in Irradiation of Rice Seeds and Conditions in Chemical Treatment

Present experiments were attempted to clarify the effects of modifying factors such as seed water content and oxygen in the X-rayed rice seed, and treatment of seed with ethylene imine under varying conditions, in terms of the influences on the biological injuries in M₁generation. 1. In radiosensitivities of varying seed water contents from 5.6 to 13.1%, the sensitivity was increased at 5.6% of water content, but decreased at 13.1%. 2. In X-ray treatment of seed the effect of oxygen was clearly observed when the seed water content was 5.6~9.7%, but this kind of effect was hardly recognizable in seed of higher water content. 3. In the treatment of seed with ethylene imine, the differences in growth injury due to concentrations was not clear when treated for two hours, but when the duration extends over four hours, the growth damage conspicuously increased with the increment of concentrations. 4. In the ethylene imine treatment no substantive injury was observed at 0~10℃, but at temperature over 10℃ injury incresed drastically.
